Abstract
As we all know concrete can also resist fire up to 300ð- 600 ðC, since the concrete components are cement and aggregates are chemically inert and therefore virtually non-combustible. But when the temperature exceeds 600 ðC the behavior of the concrete differs and the strength is gradually decreasing with increase in temperature. The normal residential fire accidents itself reach up to 200 ðC in half an hour. So the concrete need to be prepared which can resist very high temperature without loss in its strength, by adding different mineral admixtures in Nano-particles size the fire resistance capacity of the concrete gets increased. Here in this experiment Nano Silica fume as an Mineral admixtures in different proportions such as 5% and 10% added to the weight of the cement. The concrete mix is been prepared for M30 grade using PPC cement. The cubes are been prepared with both conventional concrete and fire resistance for 7, 14 and 28 days for getting a comparative result. All the cubes are been placed in temperature of about 600 ðC and 900 ðC for 2 hours. Standard fire resistant test as per ASTM E 119 [4] and the strength of the cubes are determined separately for sudden and slow cooling process. After comparing the results shows that when the temperature is higher, strength of nano silica fume mix are increased. The temperature is increased beyond 900 ðC we can use higher percentage of silica fume in concrete to get higher compressive strength.
