Abstract
Bacterial nitrifiers had a potential ability for mitigating unpleasant odour that is caused by ammonia emission from livestock waste. This study to evaluate the character of Pseudomonas sp. LS3K by growing in synthetic medium with single nitrogen substrate source and investigating the ability to reduce ammonium and production nitrite and nitrate. This research conducted by culturing Pseudomonas sp. LS3K in a modified batch reactor under the aerobic condition. The medium contains inorganic N and C source with C/N ratio 5,10,15 and 20. Pseudomonas sp. LS3K was capable in utilizing inorganic N and C sources on medium at different C/N ratios for the growth cell and the nitrification activity that is indicated by the increases the density of the cell suspension and the decreases of the ammonium concentration and the production of nitrite and nitrate on medium. Pseudomonas sp. LS3K has potential as nitrification bacteria with the highest rate of the cell growth and nitrification activity occurred on inorganic medium with C/N ratio 5.
