Abstract
The present study of water quality monitoring was carried out in Lake Nainital during 2015-16 with the objective to understand the changes in various physico- chemical and biological parameters occurring due to hypolimnetic aeration, which has been carried out in the lake since 2007. The role of an important drain namely, âMetropole drainâ in contributing the eutrophication level of the lake was also assessed during the study period. It was observed that the improved water quality of the lake due to aeration in the past was constant during the present year also. However, entry of nitrogen and phosphorus through Metropole drain was found to be alarming. It was suggested that the entry of nutrients from the metropole drain should be checked immediately to reduce further increase in the level of eutrophication.
