Abstract
The article is devoted to the issues on hatchability and sex of growing turkeys and geese depending on hatching eggsâ holding period, weight, shape and density. The optimal holding period for hatching eggs of geese and turkeys in order to obtain maximum growing birdsâ hatchability was determined. It is proved that the increase in weight and shape index of hatching eggs affect the decrease in hatchability percentage of turkeys and geese, and the gain density of eggs â increase in growing birdsâ hatchability. The article confirms the effect of pre-brooding holding period, weight parameters, shape and density of hatching eggs of turkeys and geese on the ratio of growing birdsâ sex (female/male). It also determines the increase in sex differentiation of one-day-old growing turkeys and geese with increasing eggsâ holding period: the maximum growing turkeysâ female/male ratio reaches 1/1.26 under turkey eggsâ holding period of 9 days, the maximum growing geeseâs female/male ratio is 1/1.08 under geese eggsâ holding period of 16-17 days. The research results can be used in new technologiesâ development in sex differentiation of one-day-old growing turkeys and geese, which finds its application in industrial poultry farming to improve its cost effectiveness and economic efficiency.
