Abstract
Dengue a vector borne viral disease progressively a global health threat with periodic outbreaks resulting in serious illness and death. Its transmission is increased worldwide in tropical and sub-tropical regions. There is no specific allopathic drug to commendably treat this fatal fever. The conventional medicine with a plant based anti-viral preparation Nilavembu (Andrographis paniculata) is used in the local community to combat dengue fever. Nilavembu is generally known as the predominant bitter herb with body cleansing traits. Present study investigated five databases (Pubmed, Web of Science, and Google scholar, Scopus, CINAHL) to determine the prognosis of Dengue fever treated with Nilavembu around the world. The potential anti-dengue activity of Nilavembu was reviewed. Nilavembu is considered to have the most antiviral inhibitory effect on the Dengue virus and is found to be non-toxic and safe.
