Abstract
Cinnamomum cassia has been widely published as an anti-hyperglycemic agent, however compared to type 2 diabetes, not much work has been done on the type 1 diabetes. Various doses and duration have also been published but the exact dose has not been determined yet. These works evaluate 300 mg/kg BW for 14 days, daily decoction of Cinnamomun cassia dry extract on blood glucose and lipid profile in alloxan-induced type 1 diabetes rat. Alloxan injection induced hyperglycemic condition in the rat, mimicking type 1 diabetic condition. Daily decoction of Cinnamomun cassia dry extract 300 mg/kg bw/day for 14 days significantly reduced blood glucose level in alloxan-induced type 1 diabetic rats. Additionally, cholesterol and tryglyceride level were increased in alloxan-induced type 1 diabetic rats and daily decoction of Cinnamomun cassia dry extract for 14 days significantly reduced these levels. This study showed additional alternate effective dose and duration of Cinnamomun cassia as an anti-hyperglycemic and anti-hypocholesterolemic agent compared to previous publications. However the mechanism via which cinnamomun exerts those effect on type 1 diabetic rat still has to be clarified.
