Abstract
The mean squares due to genotypes were found significant for all the characters indicating the existence of sufficient variability in the experimental material. The widest range of variation was observed for 100-seed weight followed by plant height. The estimates of phenotypic coefficient of variation (PCV) were of higher magnitude than estimates of genotypic coefficient of variation (GCV) for all the characters indicating the influence of environmental factors. High PCV and GCV were observed for 100-seed weight, seed yield per plant, number of pods per plant and number of pods per cluster. The highest heritability value was registered by 100-seed weight followed by number of pods per plant, seed yield per plant and protein content. The highest genetic advance was observed for 100-seed weight followed by protein content and plant height. The highest genetic advance expressed as percentage of mean was observed for 100-seed weight followed by seed yield per plant and number of pods per plant.
