Abstract
The present paper Ahansar, unveils the changing bio-diversity regime of seven lakes viz., Dal Lake. Khushalsar, Anchar, Waskursar, Manasbal and Wular Lake, using a litre of water from each lake. An attempt has been made to evaluate the extent of nutrient enrichment in the lake waters and their impact on plankton diversity. The chemistry of the water reveals the alkaline nature of the lake waters. The high content of chloride is an evidence of presence of organic matter while as progressive increase in nitrogen and phosphorus in all the lakes is attributed to sewage contamination. The chemical parameters in all the lakes are on the higher side when compared to earlier records.
