Abstract
The sublethal stress of the toxicants endosulfan and monocrotophos on total proteins, carbohydrates and lipids of gill, liver, muscle and carcass were determined in relation to duration and concentration for Labeo rohita, Mystus vittatus and Channa punctata. The results indicate that different pollutants differ in their ability to induce changes in the energy metabolism. The toxicity of the medium perhaps causes alterations iin the energy metabolism of the tissues resulting in exhaustion of the energy sources. The quantitative' differences between Labeo rohita, Mystus vittatus and Channa punctata seem to be due to the variations in the physico-chemical properties and the extent of responses that endosulfan and monocrotophos produce in them.
