Abstract

Andrographis paniculata Plant leaves extract is used as corrosion inhibitors for controlling corrosion of mild steel in 1N hydrochloric acid. The Phyto chemicals present in plant extracts, such as Diterpenoid Lactones, tannin, phenol, and flavonoids, play a significant role in corrosion resistance. The aim of this study is to utilize extract to investigate their potential applications in corrosion field. The weight loss technique shows the good inhibition efficiency and less corrosion rate at maximum concentration of 250 ppm. Potentiodynamic polarization study indicate that inhibitor serve as mixed type of inhibitor. Electrochemical impedance measurements indicate that an increase the charge transfer resistance (Rt), increase the double layer capacitance (Cdl) and corrosion current (Icorr) values owing to the decreased thickness of adsorbed layer. FTIR spectra reveal that the protective film consists of Fe2+- plant constituent complex.
