Abstract
In this research, attempts have been made to study the temporal variations and trends in monthly, seasonal, and annual temperature of Bhubaneswar city, for the period 1970 to 2015, in order to identify the change in temperature and its trends and magnitude by applying Mann-Kendall (MK) trend test. The data used in the study are daily temperature data obtained from the National Data Centre, IMD, Pune. Analysis has been carried out for three temperature indices, namely minimum temperature (Tmin), maximum temperature (Tmax), and average temperature (Tavg). The study result revealed that the annual average temperature shows an increasing trend having an annual increase of 0.025 oC per year and has increased by 1.15 oC with maximum temperatures depicting an increasing trend, having an annual increase of 0.030 oC per year and which has increased by 1.38 oC in the study period. As well as the minimum temperature also shows an increasing trend with an annual increase of 0.020 oC and which has increased by 0.92 oC in the last 46 years. The MK test shows an upward trend and also implies an increasing trend over time, which indicates that there is a significant increase in the trend and is statistically significant at 0.05% of significance.
