Abstract

The aim of this study is to utilize expired Mucinex cough syrup and investigate their potential applications in corrosion field. After expiry date it will be used as eco-friendly corrosion inhibitor instead of becoming a source of environmental pollution. Expired Mucinex cough syrup has been evaluated for anti-corrosive properties of carbon metal immersed in sulphuric acid. The weight loss technique shows the good inhibition efficiency. Electrochemical impedance measurements indicate that an increase the charge transfer resistance (Rt), increase the double layer capacitance (Cdl) and corrosion current (Icorr) values owing to the decreased thickness of adsorbed layer. FTIR spectra reveal that the protective film consists of Fe2+- constituent complex.
