Abstract
Karauli goat is an indigenous goat of south eastern plains of Rajasthan characterized by unique phenotypic, productive and reproductive traits. A survey was conducted in three districts namely Karauli, Sawai Madhopur and Kota, considered as native tract of Karauli goat. An interview schedule was designed to study reproductive and productive performance of Karauli goat in its native tract. About 184 respondents of 17 villages of Sapotra and Mandrial tehsils were approached with structured interview schedule to collect information on reproduction and production performance aspects of Karauli goat in their tract. Mean age at first mating in males and females was recorded as 423.15±2.90, and 387.11±1.65 days respectively. The age at first oestrus and oestrus cycle duration was observed as 203.60±1.94 and 19.11±0.07 days respectively in Karauli goat at farmerâs field. The mean age at first kidding, kidding interval, service period, dry period and gestation period were 540.64±1.81, 361.73±1.18, 207.43±1.36, 104.90±0.78, 150.82±0.08 days respectively. The daily milk yield and total lactation milk yield was observed as 1530.43±19.61g and 270.04±2.24 kg respectively. The mean lactation length, days at attain peak yield, fat and SNF per cent were 251.70±6.53,28.45±0.39 days, 3.55±0.01% and 8.54±0.01% respectively.
