Abstract
Water is so vital for our lives. Groundwater is the most important source of freshwater available for us. The current work investigates the physical and chemical parameters of groundwater at Ariyalur District. Parameters such as pH, E.C, TDS, Chloride, Calcium, magnesium, sodium, potassium, barium, nitrate, sulphate, phosphate, ammonia, fluoride, iron, chromium, lead, zinc, copper, aluminium, manganese, cadmium, and nickel were analysed. Parameters like C.O.D, pH, turbidity and T.D.S show deviations from recommended W.H.O standards. Bore Well water samples, are slightly acidic, as revealed from their pH value. Higher values of Iron, Total hardness, chloride, fluoride, calcium and magnesium and heavy metal contamination affects the groundwater quality in Ariyalur district. Necessary measures have to be taken to recover the quality of groundwater.
