MODULATION OF FRUIT QUALITY ATTRIBUTES OF TOMATO (SOLANUM LYCOPERSICUM L.) THROUGH CALCIUM AND BORON NUTRITION UNDER POLYHOUSE CONDITIONS

Abstract

The two years of study was conducted to investigate the impact of foliar spray of calcium and boron on the quality of polyhouse-grown “Heemsohna” tomato. Calcium 0.75 % optimum does suitable enhancing shelf life of fruit, ascorbic acid, lycopene content in fruit and minimum moisture percent in fruits reported. Boron treated plant fruit higher TSS with 0.50 % Borax and ascorbic acid, lycopene as well as minimum moisture percent with higher self-life traits reported during the experiment in 0.25% Borax foliar application. Increasing cell wall compactness was observed after calcium and boron foliar treatment during the crop cycle. The rate of respiration was lowest in Ca × B foliar spray, with lower moisture content in fruits, best self-life was reported in treated plant fruits.
