WEATHER INDICES AS CURSE OR BOON FOR MUSTARD APHID (LIPAPHIS ERYSIMI L.) UNDER EASTERN PLANE ZONE OF UTTAR PRADESH, INDIA

Abstract

Mustard crop (Brassica juncea L.) is the most important oilseed crop for Eastern Uttar Pradesh. This crop is very sensitive to weather conditions. This study has been made to clearly understand the relationship (positive or negative) between weather variables and important meteorological parameters viz: Maximum temperature, Minimum temperature, relative humidity, rainfall, wind speed, Evaporation, sunshine etc. This work also shows the effect of individual weather parameters on aphid infestation /aphid population. The statistical tools correlation and regression have been applied to find out the results. The maximum and negative correlation has been reported with maximum temperature (-0.59) followed by Evaporation (0.51); similarly, the maximum positive correlation reported in Relative Humidity (68%) followed by wind speed (36%). The value of R2 showing maximum in Relative Humidity (45%) and the regression model is found significant. Rest the variables are showing well enough role in aphid population during the crop season for Eastern Uttar Pradesh. This work will help agricultural scientists particularly agronomists and entomologists, to protect the crop and increase the yield in future research.
