EFFECT OF MOISTURE ABSORBENTS AND IRRIGATION LEVELS ON GROWTH PARAMETERS OF WHEAT (TRITICUM AESTIVUM L.)

Abstract

The results of field experiment entitled “Effect of Moisture Absorbents and Irrigation Levels on Growth Parameters of Wheat (Triticum aestivum L.)” was carried out during the rabi seasons for two consecutive years, i.e., 2023-24 and 2024-25 at the Instructional Farm, Department of Agronomy, Rajasthan College of Agriculture, MPUAT, Udaipur. The experiment comprising sixteen treatment combinations involving four treatments of irrigation schedules in main plots (I0: no irrigation, I1: one irrigation, I2: two irrigations and I3: three irrigations) and four moisture absorbents {M1: control (water spray), M2: hydrogel 10 kg ha-1, M3: silicon 100 kg ha-1 and M4: Biochar 2 t ha-1} in sub plots replicated thrice. As a test crop, wheat variety Raj 4037 was used. The results indicated that different irrigation schedules in wheat significantly influenced the growth attributes and growth. The maximum growth attributes (viz., plant population and plant height) as well as plant population at harvest (75.50) and plant height (44.04, 80.15 and 88.52 cm) was obtained with the three irrigations condition. Whereas in case of moisture absorbents practices M2: hydrogel 10 kg ha-1 resulted as maximum number of plant population at harvest (74.43) and plant height (42.68, 77.05 and 85.11 cm) among all the moisture absorbent applied to the experimental farm
