UTILIZATION OF PARTHENIUM HYSTEROPHORUS COMPOST FOR ENHANCING BRINJAL YIELD AND SOIL PROPERTIES

Abstract

Brinjal (Solanum melongena L.) seedlings are cultivated organically using the pot culture method. Parthenium hysterophorus compost was found to improve soil conditioning. The impact of compost application is evaluated on flowering and fruiting morphology, as well as on the biochemical composition and mineral content of the fruits. The treatment led to a quantitative 5fec44 improvement in yield, reflected in earlier flowering, enhanced fruit, larger fruit size, and nearly extra yield. Qualitative enhancements were also observed, including increased fiber content, soluble proteins, and total carbohydrates. Mineral analysis of the fruits revealed higher levels of phosphorus, sodium, and zinc. Additionally, improved shelf life, superior taste, and enhanced fruit gloss contributed to greater marketability. Overall, the study concludes that soil amendment with Parthenium hysterophorus compost is an eco-friendly, simple, and effective approach for improving both the quantity and quality of organically grown brinjal.
