Abstract
The volume of municipal solid waste (MSW) in Vietnam has been increasing rapidly, at an average rate of 10â16% per year, placing significant pressure on the waste treatment system. In this context, waste-to-energy (WtE) technology is considered an advanced technological solution that not only reduces the volume of waste but also utilizes waste as an alternative fuel source to partially replace fossil fuels, thereby contributing to greenhouse gas emission reduction and environmental protection. At waste-to-energy plants applying modern treatment technologies, environmental protection measures have demonstrated clear effectiveness during the operation. Vietnam has introduced numerous preferential mechanisms and policies to support waste-to-energy projects. However, based on the obtained results, further studies are still needed to enhance the effectiveness of environmental protection activities.
