Abstract
This study investigates the biodiversity of damselflies in Kota District, Rajasthan, India, focusing on species composition, distribution, and habitat preferences. Field surveys were conducted across various aquatic habitats, including rivers, ponds, and reservoirs, from monsoon to post-monsoon seasons. A total of 17 damselfly species from 10 genera and 4 families were recorded. The family Coenagrionidae dominated with 11 species, followed by Platycnemididae (4 species), Lestidae (1 species), and Calopterygidae (1 species). Key findings include the presence of endemic and threatened species, with the Chambal River serving as a hotspot for diversity. Habitat degradation due to urbanization and agriculture poses significant threats. This research underscores the need for conservation measures to protect damselfly populations and their wetland ecosystems.
