COMBINED AND INDIVIDUAL EFFECTS OF DOXORUBICIN AND VITAMIN E ON ORGANIC CONSTITUENTS OF RAT TISSUES

Abstract

The in vivo effect of 20 mg / kg weight of Dox, 100 mg / kg weight of vitamin E and 50 IU / kg weight of vitamin A separately and in combination over 10 weeks period (weekly doses), the state of rat tissues based organic constituents like total proteins, total carbohydrates total lipid, free amino acids, free fatty acids, glycogen and pyruvate, lactate and serum glucose levels were reported. The data indicated decreased total proteins, total carbohydrates total lipid, glycogen and pyruvate content followed by increased levels of free amino acids, free fatty acids, and serum glucose and lactate in all the rat tissues under Dox stress. All these Dox-altered rat tissues organic constituents appear to be neutralized in the presence of Dox plus vitamin E and Dox plus vitamin A. From the result it is reported that Dox impairs the overall general metabolism of rat tissues and the antioxidants like vitamin E and A by their antioxidant mechanism, might be neutralizing the Dox-altered rat tissues' organic constituents in vivo.
