Abstract
The current research work was conducted in the Talcher coal mining area of Odisha. The study used the Household health production function to examine the workday lost due to illness caused by air pollution. The study found that there is a strong association between workday loss and coal mining-induced air pollution. If pollution is brought down to a safe level, there could be an improvement in the welfare of Rs. 1019.67 million by avoiding workday losses and mitigating and averting activities by local people. Effective policy intervention can reduce the detrimental health effects of mining and retain benefits in the study villages.
