RESPONSE OF TRANSPLANTED RICE (ORYZA SATIVA L.) ON NUTRIENT LEVELS AND WEED MANAGEMENT PRACTICES IN RELATION TO GRAIN YIELD AND NUTRIENT UPTAKE

Abstract

A field experiment was conducted during two consecutive Kharif seasons of 2024 and 2025 to evaluate the influence of nutrient management and weed management practices on nutrient uptake, weed suppression efficiency, and yield of rice. The experiment was laid out in a split-plot design with four nutrient management treatments in main plots (Control, 100% RDF, 75% RDF + nano urea spray, and 75% RDF + foliar urea spray) and five weed management treatments in subplots (Pyrazosulfuron-ethyl, Bispyribac sodium, Pyrazosulfuron-ethyl fb Bispyribac sodium, weed-free, and weedy check). Results indicated that 75% RDF+ nano urea spray significantly enhanced nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium uptake in both grain and straw, which finally resulted in higher grain yield. Among weed control practices, the weed-free plots recorded the highest nutrient uptake and grain yield, comparable with sequential application of Pyrazosulfuron-ethyl followed by Bispyribac sodium. The lowest nutrient uptake and yield were observed under the weedy check due to severe crop–weed competition. The findings emphasize the importance of integrating balanced fertilization with effective weed management for maximizing nutrient uptake and productivity in rice.
