PUBLIC ACCEPTANCE OF MODERN WASTEWATER TREATMENT TECHNOLOGIES

Abstract

This study investigated public acceptance of modern wastewater treatment technologies. A quantitative survey research design was employed, with data collected from 400 respondents in urban communities. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and multiple regression analysis. The results indicated that the overall level of public acceptance was high. The demographic findings showed that most respondents were female and aged between 31–40 years. The perception analysis revealed high levels of environmental concern and perceived usefulness of wastewater treatment technologies. Multiple regression results indicated that perceived usefulness (â = 0.418, p < 0.001) was the strongest predictor of public acceptance, followed by environmental concern (â = 0.372, p = 0.001), technology trust (â = 0.301, p = 0.003), and government support (â = 0.214, p = 0.010). These factors significantly influenced public acceptance, while perceived usefulness had the greatest impact. The findings suggest that improving environmental awareness, strengthening trust in technology, and promoting government support are essential for enhancing public acceptance of modern wastewater treatment technologies.
