STUDY OF CLADOCERAN DIVERSITY WITH RELATION TO SELECTED LIMNOLOGICAL PARAMETERS OF SEI DAM, SOUTHERN RAJASTHAN, INDIA

Rakesh and Nadim Chishty

Abstract

Limnological parameters and cladoceran diversity of Sei Dam southern Rajasthan was studied during the period of 2023-24 at selected 3 different sites, namely site 1, site 2, and site 3. Limnological parameters like temperature, pH, and DO showed slight variation among the selected sites, but site 2 has the optimal balance of studied water quality parameters which was demonstrated by high species count (9) and species diversity (2.05) at site 2. Similarly, the collected zooplankton samples were analyzed and different diversity indices were applied, like Shannon diversity Index, and Simpson Dominance Index values of which were in the following descending order: site 2 > site 3 > site 1. The observed values of Shannon Diversity Index and Simpson Dominance Index were as follows site 1 (1.03, 0.62), site 2 (2.05, 0.86), and site 3 (1.44, 0.70). In conclusion better the water quality parameters, the better the cladoceran diversity and vice versa.
