Abstract
The study reiterates the importance of specific gravity values and the need of having a pan-India catalogue of wood specific gravity values with a standard procedure for all the tree species that occur in Indian forests. This can be helpful in estimating the Above Ground Biomass values with more certainty even in small forest areas of one âhectare range. In addition certain keystone tree species can also be identified in terms of biomass accumulation and helps in overall forest conservation efforts.
