Abstract

ABSTRACT East Champaran district often called Lake District is watered by a chain of 28 lakes of which the largest one Sugaon Lake has enormous importance in the socio-economics of the fishing community of the area. A prophylactic study was conducted during 2022-2023 to evaluate the socio-economic condition of fishing community of Sugaonlake. The result showed a miserable and poor condition of most of the fishers. It may be due to low education level, high family size, low income, non-availability of own ponds, scarcity of alternate employment opportunities and less perceptive about modern fishery techniques etc. There socioeconomic status could be improved by educating them in various aspects of fishery.
