Abstract
Salanum anguivi Lam. is a source of medicinally important compounds. In the present study the preliminary phytochemical analysisshows presence of different secondary metabolites such as alkaloids, flavonoids, phenols and quinones. These bioactive compounds are involving in plant defense mechanism and acts against the fungal and bacterial infection. In the present research study, the fruits extract shows antifungal property against two different fungi strains such as Aspergillus niger (ATCC504) and Candida albicans (NCIM 3100). The extract also shows antibacterial property against gram +Ve bacterial strains such as Bacillus subtilis (NCIM2063), Staphylococcus aureus (NCIM2178) and gram -Ve bacterial strains like Escherichia coli (NCIM 2065) and Proteus mirabilis (NCIM2388). The present investigation reveals the Solanum anguivi Lam. possesses antifungal and antibacterial potential. This property useful for control the pathogenic infections in human being by using natural plant source.
