LENGTH-WEIGHT RELATIONSHIP OF THE PEARLSPOT, ETROPLUS SURATENSIS (BLOCH, 1790) FROM ASHTAMUDI LAKE, KERALA, INDIA

S.R. Regi and V. Reshmi

Abstract

Length-weight relationships (LWRs) of Etroplus suratensis from Ashtamudi Lake, southwest coast of India, are presented in this study. A total of 212 fishes (111 males and 101 females) were collected from the landing centers. LWR estimated by least square method showed ‘b’ values slightly more than the isometric value of 3 (males 3.0118, females 3.0500, pooled 3.0328). The high determination coefficients (r2) suggest isometric growth with a tendency toward positive allometry for the fish.
