Abstract
Millets are eco-friendly crops largely grown under rainfed conditions. This study analyzed the growth performance of Cholam, Cumbu, Ragi, Thinai and Samai using Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR), across two decades and the overall period. The CAGR results showed mixed trends. The results revealed diverse growth patterns among crops. Cholam grew in Decade I but declined later, Cumbu had negative area and production growth though long-term productivity improved, and Ragi maintained positive productivity despite a fall in area and production. Thinai recovered strongly in Decade II, while Samai showed stable and moderate growth across all parameters. Overall, the findings highlight the inconsistent millet cultivation trends and the need for strategic efforts to improve production and sustain area under millets in the future.
