RAHUL PATIL, KAVERI HALLI AND AISHWARYA PATIL

Abstract

An attempt has been made to assess the ecological status of the reservoir at Ghataprabha bird sanctuary by using algal diversity. A total of 64 species of algae were recorded among them maximum number of taxa are represented by Chlorophyceae (26 species) followed by Bacillariophyceae (25 species), Cyanophyceae (10 species), Euglenophyceae (2 species) and Dinophyceae (1 species). From the present investigation it is evident that the reservoir supports the growth of varied algal assemblage seasonally and provides a clue of organic pollution and acidic nature of it. Further studies are necessary to assess the detailed ecological status of the reservoir.
