Abstract
The present study was undertaken to assess the impact of labour scarcity on farm level productivity and identify the damage mitigating strategies and alternatives to tide over the crisis in Godavari Delta Zone of Andhra Pradesh. The Unpaired t-test was employed to compare mean productivity levels of labour-scarcity affected and unaffected farms, and labour-saving technology-adopted and non-adopted farms. The results revealed that, significant productivity differences were observed in all crops except Black gram, indicating the negative impact of labour shortages on farms in the study area. The results also confirmed the positive influence of labour-saving technology adoption in the productivity of major crops in the study area. The Garrett ranking analysis revealed that, âHiring labours from other regionsâ is the most preferred mitigating strategy identified by farmers followed by âLeasing the land for cultivation to othersâ and âAdoption of labour-saving technologies.
