Abstract

In the contemporary era of global digitalization, India’s Information Technology (IT) sector is witnessing rapid growth and has emerged as a pivotal contributor to the nation’s economic development. However, alongside this progress, there is an increasing prevalence of Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) and employee wellbeing challenges among IT professionals. These emerging concerns - encompassing physical health risks, mental health issues, and ergonomic stressors - pose significant threats to workforce productivity, employee retention, and long-term organizational performance. Despite the sector’s importance, there is a notable scarcity of empirical studies addressing workplace wellbeing within the Indian IT context. Moreover, limited efforts have been made to systematically integrate and evaluate the effectiveness of existing health and safety interventions. This study seeks to bridge that gap by developing a comprehensive strategic framework for Health, Safety, and Wellbeing (HS&W) tailored specifically to the IT and IT-enabled Services (ITES) industry. Anchored in an extensive literature review and contextual analysis, the proposed framework aims to serve as a practical guide for industry leaders and policymakers to foster safer, healthier, and more sustainable work environments. The outcomes of this study are expected to support holistic business growth by improving occupational health standards, enhancing employee wellbeing, and promoting sustainable development across the Indian IT sector.
