Abstract
Basmati Rice is one of the leading exports value crop in India. Sheath blight disease caused by Rhizoctonia solani is the most important and severe disease in Basmati rice growing areas. Pathogens can live in soil and plant debris and also possess a wide range of host plants, which complicates disease prevention efforts. A roving survey was conducted to assess the disease incidence and severity in the predominant 8 Basmati rice growing districts of Uttar Pradesh. It was found that the disease was prevalent in the entire district surveyed with disease incidence of 10- 45%. The highest and lowest disease incidence and severity was observed in the Meerut district (44% and 33%) and Amroha district (14% and 6%). All the stages of the crop were found susceptible to the infection
