Abstract

Commelina youngii was described by Nandikarin 2021 based on a collection of Alfred Prentice Young (1814- 1919) collected in November 1897 in the dry hillocks near Sunnal village of Belgaum (Bombay Presidency), presently Ramdurg Taluka of Belagavi district (Karnataka State). After his specimen, there is no single collection available in any herbaria. During floristic studies of Bagalkot and Gadag district authors collected some interesting specimens of Commelina which after critical studies and expert advice revealed as recently described species C. youngii. But there was a long gap of 140 years, because unavailability of collection after Alfred Young (1897). The present communication deals with the recollection of this species after a 140- years-long gap and elaborated below with diagnostic description, taxonomic notes, phenology, distribution and photo plates for easy identification of the species.
