Abstract
Dyes are commonly used in textile, dyeing plastics, cosmetics, and food products. Dyes are nonbiodegradable and therefore, they persist in the environment for a long period. Photocatalytic degradation of organic pollutant is a green chemical route to control against even increasing water pollution. A Zscheme hetero junction of ZnO/MoS2 was used to degrade erythrosine photo-catalytically. Hydroxyl radical was responsible for its degradation as evident from scavenger study. It was observed that this photocatalyst can degrade erythrosine successfully. The progress of reaction was monitored spectrophotometrically at 525nm. The optimal conditions were achieved as: pH=7.0, [Erythrosine] = 6.0 x 10â6M; amount of compound = 0.06 g, and intensity of light = 70.0 mWcmâ2.
