Abhishek Dutta and Rishita Khajuria

Abstract

Ficus krishnae C.DC., commonly known as Krishna Fig or Krishna’s buttercup, is a unique species of the Moraceae family, recognized for its distinctive cup-shaped leaves. This species holds immense cultural, medicinal, and ecological importance in India. The present review consolidates current knowledge on its taxonomy, morphology, phytochemical constituents, ethnobotanical significance and pharmacological properties. Traditional Ayurvedic medicine has long utilized F. krishnae for its antimicrobial, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Recent studies have identified bioactive compounds such as 1,6-anhydrobeta- d-glucopyranose with antidiabetic potential. However, despite its historical significance, scientific research on its therapeutic potential remains limited. Further pharmacological investigations and conservation strategies are required to ensure its sustainable use and preservation.
