Abstract
The present investigation entitled âSeed storage studies and effect of grafting month and procurement of scion stick on success of grafting in jackfruit (Artocarpus heterophyllus Lam.) were carried out at the Regional Fruit Research Station, Vegurle, District, Sindhudurg under Dr. Balasaheb Sawant Konkan Krishi Vidyapeeth, Dapoli during the years 2022-23 and 2023-24. The objectives of this investigation were to assess the seed viability in different seed storage in jack fruit. Study was conducted on different seed storage methods, i.e. C1: Screw cap plastic bottles, C2: Polybag 300 gauge + Screw cap plastic bottles, C3: Earthen pot, C4: Storage in polybag and wrapping with gunny bags, C5: Earthen pot buried in Soil and C6: Control was used. Experiment was laid out in a completely randomized design (CRD). From the pooled data, it is concluded that, maximum germination percentage (87.960 %) and high seed vigour (94.700) was recorded in treatment C1 whereas, minimum germination percentage (59.040 %) and minimum seedling vigour (70.540) was recorded in treatment C6 (control). Minimum days required for initiation of germination (10.890 days), highest germination index (40.690), maximum germination value (22.310), lowest speed of emergence (6.708 days) was recorded in treatment C5 whereas, maximum days required for initiation of germination (17.034 days), lowest germination index (8.642), minimum germination value (5.170) and highest speed of germination (16.562 days) was recorded in treatment C6.
