Abstract
The important role played by women in environmental protection and sustainable development serves as a catalyst that makes women the guardians of natural resources. The current review explores the contributions from women, in varied fields related to environmental conservation and protection, from the grass roots organizations to the leadership roles played by women. Women being closely associated with nature and community well-being, it is obvious they bring unique perspectives when it comes to various environmental management initiatives such as wildlife preservation, reforestation, waste management, etc. This review includes a brief description of the prominent women leaders who despite facing the gender inequality, have provided valuable solutions for various environmental causes. This review also highlights the need for gender-inclusive approaches in global environmental strategies, and the importance of women empowerment to achieve long-term ecological sustainability.
