Prathmesh Raipure, Sudheer K. Pathak and Kartik Kharche

Abstract

An experiment was conducted to study the characteristics of DUS (Distinctness, Uniformity, and Stability) in twenty-nine different linseed (Linum usitatissimum L.) genotypes, including 1 check (RLC-81). These were procured from the Department of Genetics & Plant Breeding, School of Agriculture, ITM University, Gwalior (M.P) during rabi 2023-24. A diverse selection of germplasm is available for linseed, with plants that share similar structures and offer appealing blue flowers. Using DUS (Distinctness, Uniformity, and Stability) testing is extremely relevant in this context. To fully unlock the potential of linseed in agriculture, it is essential to have access to a wide variety of germplasm and comprehensive data for characterization and evaluation. Field observations were made on various morphological traits, including floral characteristics. Through the thorough examination of various genotypes, we conducted a comprehensive assessment and carefully recorded the distinct traits, identifying potential contributors for a variety of desirable characteristics. Extensive data collection and analysis have provided valuable insights into the unique characteristics of various linseed varieties. Through this understanding, scientists have been able to develop enhanced strains that provide increased productivity and superior quality, also provide valuable insights into the genetic diversity of linseed.
