Abstract

This investigation was undertaken to study “Effect of weed management on growth and yield of French bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) cv. Arka Sukomal. During 2024 the experiment conducted in the farmer field located at Navampattu village, Kalvarayan Hills, Salem District, Tamil Nadu, India. The experiment was laid out in a randomized block design with 12 treatments and each replicated thrice. An experiment comprising twelve treatments viz. T1-Control, T2- Hand weeding at 30 DAS, T3- Hand weeding at 30 and 60 DAS, T4- Fluchloralin @1kg ha-1, T5-Oxyfluorfen @1 kg ha-1, T6- Phendimetalin @1 kg ha-1, T7-Fluchloralin @1kg ha-1 + Hand weeding 30 DAS, T8-Oxyfluorfen @1 kg ha-1 + Hand weeding 30 DAS, T9- Phendimetalin @1kg ha-1 + Hand weeding 30 DAS, T10-Fluchloralin @1.5 kg ha-1 + Hand weeding 30 and 60 DAS, T11- Oxyfluorfen @1.5 kg ha-1 + Hand weeding 30 and 60 DAS and T12- Pendimetalin @1.5 kg ha-1 + Hand weeding 30 and 60 DAS. All the weed control treatments resulted significant increase in the growth and yield parameters. The highest plant height (160.13 cm) 120 DAS, number of branches plant-1 (35.47), number of leaves plant-1 (230.11), leaf area (78.19 cm²), and leaf area index (4.86 %) were achieved with the integrated treatment of (T10) Fluchloralin @1.5 kg ha-1 + Hand weeding 30 and 60 DAS. Similarly, this treatment resulted in the maximum number of flowers plant-1, maximum number of pods plant-1 (68.42), pod length (12.31 cm), pod width (8.95 mm) and total estimated yield of 36.58 t ha-1 compared to control (26.57 t ha-1).
