RESISTANCE DEVELOPMENT AND MANAGEMENT IN INSECTS AGAINST BACILLUS THURINGIENSIS TOXINS

Anupma Singh and Archana Anokhe

Abstract

Bacillus thuringiensis Cry toxins are used increasingly in agriculture pest control to replace chemical insecticides. Chemical insecticides act promptly against insect pests but they act against other non-target species and beneficial insects of agroecosystem. The cry toxins offer an advantage over it via high selectivity and can be applied as sprays and transgenic plants. However, the restricted host range and resistance development in insects offer some disadvantages against Bt toxins. To comprehend the above issues, the knowledge of cry toxin action mechanism along with the receptors and transporters can provide insight in the above issue.
