Abstract

A field experiment was conducted at Crop Research Farm (CRF), Department of Agronomy, Himalayan University during the rabi season of 2023 with 10 treatments replicated thrice in randomized block design, to determine the “effect of organic and inorganic fertilizers on growth and yield of French beans (Phaseolus vulgaris L.)”. The result revealed that height of plant was progressively increased from 20-60 DAS in all treatment highest being in treatment T1 100% NPK with vermicompost at 10 t ha-1 i.e., 32.86 cm and lowest being in treatment T9 Cocopeat at 5 t ha-1 i.e., 30.05 cm. The yield of green pod t ha-1 was significantly influenced by organic and inorganic fertilizer and their interactions. The maximum yield was recorded in treatment T1 100% NPK with vermicompost at 10 t ha-1 i.e., 3.01 t ha-1, which was significantly at par with T2 100% NPK with cow dung at 12 t ha-1 i.e., 3.00 t ha-1 and lowest being in T9 Cocopeat at 5 t ha-1 i.e., 2.84 t ha-1, and it also revealed that treatment T1 100% NPK with vermicompost at 10 t ha-1 was found to be the best treatment for obtaining higher grain yield (2.15 t ha-1), harvest index ( 41.60%), test weight (40.00 g) and other growth and yield attributes like higher net returns (32480.00 INR ha-1) and B:C ratio (2.08) was also observed.
