Abstract
Groundnut is the second most significant annual oilseed crop globally, following soybean. The oil content of groundnut seeds ranges from 44% to 50%. In India, Tamil Nadu stands out as a leading state in both the cultivation area and production of important edible oilseed crops. In Tamil Nadu, Tiruvannamalai district is the major cultivator of groundnut. In the 2022-23 season, the area under groundnut cultivation in Tiruvannamalai district was 68,044 hectares, with a production of 1,54,833 tonnes (Season and Crop Report, 2023). The study analysed the performance of groundnut in the district through Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) and decomposition analysis. The CAGR analysis showed that there was a positive growth rate in area and production, 2.19 and 5.38 per cent respectively. There is no significant changes in the compound annual growth rate of productivity over the study period. The Decomposition analysis shows that the Yield effect was the important factor in overall groundnut production in Tiruvannamalai district.
