Abstract
The present trial was conducted with the objective to find out the influence of various media on seed germination of Kamala- a lesser known tree species in nursery. The experiment was comprised of seven media treatments viz., soil, sand, cocopeat, soil + sand (1:1), soil + sand (2:1), soil+FYM (1:1) and soil + sand + FYM (2:1:1) filled in perforated trays, were arranged in completely randomized design with three repetitions. The different germination media significantly influenced the germination attributes in M. philippinensis at 30 days after sowing. Sand media recorded significantly maximum germination (30.67 %), mean daily germination (1.05), peak value of germination (1.88), germination value (1.93) and germination rate index (3.10) whereas took minimum germination time (4.90) to germinate. In the trial, sand was found best germination media and can be useful for production of large-scale seedlings of M. philippinensis.
