FLORISTIC DIVERSITY OF NANI-KAKRAD WETLAND, NAVSARI, GUJARAT, INDIA - A PRELIMINARY SURVEY

Abstract

Nani-Kakrad is an important large wetland of Gujarat and one of the eight nominated nationally important wetland locations designated for conservation efforts. The present study was undertaken in order to create the baseline information of the plant diversity during 2018-2019. The enumeration of the Plant diversity reported account to total of 131 species, Angiosperm species spread across 42 families. Different life forms of the plant like herbs (42 spp.), Grasses (34 spp.), climbers (16 spp.), trees (16 spp.), shrubs (15 spp.), creepers (5 spp.) and floating herbs (4 spp.). The flora of Nani-Kakrad represents 35 dicot families and 7 monocot families and the most dominated families are Poaceae (38%) followed by Malvaceae (12%), Amaranthaceae (10%), Euphorbiaceae (7%) and Fabaceae (7%). This data provides the baseline for conserving and monitoring the floristic diversity of the Nani-Kakrad Wetland.
