Abstract
Black gram cv. VBN 11, when seeds were exposed to different electromagnetic fields of 100, 200, 300, 400 and 500 mT for 20 min, 40 min and 60 min at a constant temperature. The results proved that the seeds treated with 300 mT for 40 min recorded highest values for growth characters like plant height (32.84 cm), No. of branches/plant (5.50), No of trifoliate leaves /plant (13.75) and quality parameters like seedling length (38.79 cm), seedling dry weight (0.468 g), germination percentage (96.69 %), vigour index I (3747.99), and II (45.13) against untreated. The shorter days to 50 % flowering (33.22) were observed in the seeds treated with 300 mT for 40 min over control (38.45). The yield parameters such as no. of pods/plant (35.43), length of pod (5.59 cm), number of seeds/pod (6.56), yield of pod/plant (8.88 g), pod yield / ha (1968 kg), seed yield/plant (5.64 g), seed yield/ha (1249.33 kg) has registered highest in 300 mT for 40 mins against control.
