Abstract
The genus Solanum L. encompasses a wide range of species, many of which have significant ecological, economic, and medicinal importance. In Northeast India, this genus exhibits remarkable diversity and utilization, making it a subject of considerable interest for researchers and conservationists. This review provides a comprehensive overview of the diversity of Solanum L. highlighting the ecological roles, economic value and traditional uses by indigenous communities and conservation efforts. The present study will ensure the future research, farmers and foresters in knowing the diversified forms ranging from wild to cultivated, endemic to threatened species and from edible, no-edible to species with medicinal properties. In addition to these, it would also help in forming strategies for conservation planning and pharmaceuticals industries.
