Abstract
Adaptive capacity is the ability of a system-whether itâs a group of people, nature, or something we manage to adjust when facing climate change, such as unusual weather or extreme events. It helps reduce harm, take advantage of new opportunities, or handle the effects of these changes. Unlike adaptation, which involves actual actions, adaptive capacity is about how well a system or community can respond quickly and effectively. Systems with high adaptive capacity can better manage changes and make the most of new situations. In agriculture, adaptive capacity is key to managing different livelihoods as climate changes. It involves changing management practices, institutions, and infrastructure to respond effectively. Improving a communityâs ability to cope with climate over time requires adaptive measures at different levels.
