Abstract
In rural India, beedi rolling is a common household enterprise primarily performed by women. In rural India, it is one of the unorganized sectors where women work from home to make or roll beedi, it is a labour-intensive work as each beedi has to be rolled individually. The workersâ health is gravely harmed by this activity since they are exposed to raw tobacco dust, which can enter the body through the pharynx and skin and cause major issues. Unfortunately, they are forced to perform this labour because of their extremely low socio-economic status and are unaware of the negative repercussions of beedi rolling. In this paper, an attempt has been made to highlight the socio-economic conditions of female Beedi workers in Dinhata sub-division of Cooch Behar district in West Bengal.
